About Michelle McIntire

    In Her Own Words

"Music is essential to the development of the whole person; therefore, lessons should be demanding and should stretch the student, yet be light-hearted with a sense of fun. I strive to motivate students (pre-schoolers through retirees!) with humor and positive reinforcement. "

    Private Teaching History

Michelle has been teaching voice and piano since 1989. In that time, she has worked with young children and retirees, extremely gifted individuals and special needs students, raw beginners and experienced professionals. Michelle feels that her love of people helps her to connect with her students on a very special level, which allows both to grow, no matter what the starting point! For school aged students, she strongly encourages parental involvement. Michelle has a strong track record of past student success.

    Public School Teaching History

"I began teaching in the public schools in 1996--the year I became engaged my wonderful composer husband, David. (We were married the following summer.) While I have taught mainly vocal music on the secondary level, I have experience teaching general music and beginning band. In addition, I have also spent a very informative year teaching 3rd grade, as well as a rewarding two-year period working with the at-risk population in central Florida. As of Summer 2004, I am working toward a second Masters Degree in Music, this time in Choral Conducting. "

    Church Music

Currently the Director of Choirs at Ward Parkway Presbyterian Church, Michelle has been a church musician since she was first allowed to sing in the choir! She has been professionally involved in church music since her first job as a choir director in 1993 while still in school. Since then, Michelle has worked mainly in the Methodist church -- although not constrained by denomination. She has also conducted, subbed, and soloed for the AME Zion, Unitarian, Lutheran, Baptist, Episcopalian, and Presbyterian churches.

    Musical Theater

"I have had more than my share of community based choirs and musical theater. I've directed Oklahoma! and You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown most recently, while my last three leading roles were Rose in Bye, Bye Birdie; Mother Abbess in The Sound of Music; and Aldonza in Man of la Mancha. I also have experience in lighting, stage managing, pit orchestra, and conducting the pit."

About David McIntire

    In His Own Words

"My musical personality struggles to balance an urge towards chaos with a fascination for rigorous process. This often doesn’t always work out very well, but when it does, I’m pretty pleased with myself. I am not especially interested in harmony. My training and experiences as a musician have been mainly on the clarinet, and as a result, my approach to music is a linear one. I love shifting patterns and I am not dismayed by repetition. Many of the minimalists I hold in high regard—although I don’t really sound like any of them. I compose a lot of electronic music because I love the medium and it allows me to try out ideas that might otherwise prove too complex or frustrating for live musicians to render into sound. I tend to write each piece with a new set of musical terms, rather than repeat any formulas, even when they’re successful. This has led to a rather uneven and peculiar oeuvre, but there’s not much I can do about that. I sleep easily in the knowledge that my work will never be nominated for a Pulitzer. Included here are a few pieces that I’ve composed which I still feel work in the way I intended them. They were/are all meant to offer stimulation and delight to curious listeners, however astringent they might sound. I had fun writing them. Visitors to the site are free to download them and share them with anyone they wish. "
