Voice Lessons

-Haven't you always wanted to sing? Now is the time. It is time to get started, get committed, make some music, do something for yourself, and bring more music to the world.

-Does your kid make you nuts because they are always singing? You have a singer on your hands. Get that child into lessons so they can channel that drive!

-Don't ever let someone tell you that you can't sing. You CAN sing. If you are the victim of one of those horrible comments and it eats at you, this is because you know that is isn't true but you don't know how to prove it. Lessons with a compassionate, knowledgeable teacher will get you singing.

YOU MAY BE A SINGER IF:

  • any random comment sets off a tune in your head

  • you will be singing and won't realize it until it is pointed out

  • not singing in the car is unthinkable

  • your mom calls you her little bird

  • if you aren't already in choir, the director has her eye on you

YOU ARE READY FOR VOICE LESSONS IF:

  • after singing karaoke, you are dying for real feedback from your friends. "you did great!" just isn't enough anymore

  • you want to expand beyond singing in the car in to singing in public

  • you are considering using your voice as a career path or serious avocation

YOUR CHILD IS READY FOR VOICE LESSONS IF:

  • they sing all. the. time.

  • they know all the words to every Disney song in the world

  • they may not, in your opinion, sing well, but they seem to love it

  • they have expressed interest in lessons

In lessons with Michelle, you can expect feedback that is honest and direct, delivered with encouragement and care. She believes the act of making music is essential work and there is nothing she loves more than seeing her students succeed.

Music brings more light to the world!

Clarinet Lessons

The clarinet is one of the most interesting and versatile instruments ever created. Learning to play it can be a frustrating experience, but it doesn’t have to be!

Clarinet lessons at McIntire Studios are for students 5th grade and beyond. Due to the unique nature of the clarinet the age requirements are based on hand size. Dr. McIntire requires an entrance interview and if the student is under 12 the parent is expected to attend lessons. Parents being committed to their students progress in practice is a necessity for achievement. If you are a beginner, Dr. McIntire will determine what you need in terms of methods etc by your age, hand size, facial features and musical aptitude. After a few weeks of lessons and assessments we will create a customized curriculum for you! If you are a current band student we will utilize the method book you use in band and customize the rest of the lesson plans to further your studies. What will you need: a clarinet, reeds, any method book you are currently using, a dedicated practice space with a music stand and a metronome, and a willingness to learn!

Repertoire Coaching

During a coaching session with collaborative pianist Barbara Jurgensmeier, the student will work with the collaborative pianist on creating an effective performance together.

What is the difference between a coach and a teacher?

Generally, a teacher works on technique and selects repertoire with an eye on long-term student development. A coach works with a performer on a specific piece of music.

Composition Lessons

Many people would like to compose music, but think (or have been told) they “aren’t good enough,” or “lack talent.” They’ve been given the impression that composers are some sort of cosmic being. This is unfortunate because creating music is something that can be done by anyone.

As a composer and musician David McIntire brings decades of experience to each and every lesson. He is eager to hear what his students are doing and finding ways for them to flourish in whatever type of music that they wish to compose.
